Continuing with top six favourite snakes born here in 2012

 # 4 - Super-special Ball python. This is the dominant version of the special gene (Baker line) that when paired with any of the BEL complex (Mojave, het Russo, Phantom, Lesser, Butter, Mystic, etc) produces a form of crystal. As she matures the pink and oranges colours will intensify.

# 3 - is a CA Hypo Blood boa female. Our blood boas are pure Central American dwarfs, so they stay small (males 3.5 ft and most females around 5 ft) and with no Colombian BCI out-crossing they tend to be a deeper red.

My top 6 favourite snakes from 2012

As its the end of the year, thought I would do a count down of my  top six favourite snakes we produced in 2012.

To start at #6 is the Cinnamon Crystal. He is much darker than a regular crystal and getting better looking as he grows. Plus as far as I know he was the first one produced and probably the only one in the world.

#5 on my list of favourite snakes is the Pastel / Toffee-belly hognose. This is a double gene designer combo that only gets better and brighter with every shed .... these guys just glow with colour ... I'm holding several back as they are too nice to let go.

Thursday, 29 November 2012

We hatched toffee-bellies and Flour (yellow) albinos from a d/het to d/het toffee-glow pairing earlier in the year. I guess I didn't look at the albinos too well .. was feeding them yesterday and my wife asked why one albino was a different colour ...huh, say what ?? ... compared a few and guess what, I missed that, we actually DID hit a double recessive toffee-glow, aka albino/ toffee-belly ... LOL, talking about being a bit slow for a "morph" guy

Actually now they are a bit older, its easier to see as they colours are getting deeper. In a few months it will be even more obvious !

Our last litter of 2012, all shed out. 5 eggs = 2 x calicos, 2 x pinstripes and 1 x calico/ pinstripe with no normals. Not a bad result. Our ball python breeding season now extends to the whole year with breeding, eggs or hatchings in every month.

Hognose morph update

Putting some of our adult hognoses into brumation (winter rest period). They will stay there until mid to end of January. This is an adult breeder caramel (het hypo). Hopefully we will caramel and het caramel baby hogs early in 2013.

Super Special ball python

We hatched a sweet looking super-special female. She is an amazing orange - pink colour. So much for Baker line specials not having good colour !
